Accepting a kind invitation from Engineer Gustavo Saavedra García, president of the Society of Engineers of Peru (SIP), the president of the Pan-American Academy of Engineering (API), Mr. José Domingo Pérez Muñiz, joined the commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the organization of Peruvian engineers, reiterating a ”call to action to world leaders for engineering education and development as an essential element for solving fundamental problems of humanity”.
The celebration of the 126-year history of the Loyal and Centennial Society took place in the Historic Center of Lima, at the headquarters of the SIP, on Sunday, October 27, 2024, with the presence of authorities of the Republic, descendants of the founder of the SIP, Eng. Eduardo de Habich, as well as members of society who are prominent in private practice, mining, industry and academia.
During the formal commemoration events, engineer Saavedra García noted that the illustrious institution has included former presidents of the Republic, heroes of the Pacific War and hundreds of the country's most outstanding engineering professionals.
In addition, it reaffirmed its vision of”to continue to be leaders and references in engineering at the national and international levels, to manage environmental conservation and to faithfully praise the honor of being the oldest engineering institution in Peru”.
For his part, in his speech, the president of the API spoke about the importance of education and engineering development in the mitigation of damage caused by natural disasters, the design and construction of resilient works and the formulation of affirmative actions to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Expanding on the specific initiatives and recommendations of the API, its president outlined the concrete actions contained in the San Juan Declaration of 2022 and signed in person an original parchment copy of the declaration he delivered to the president of the IAPA.
Aware of the initiatives of regional and international organizations, and because of the relevance of integration with those with which a common vision is maintained, the API highlighted its endorsement of the coincidences between its entity and the SIP.
The engineer Pérez Muñiz highlighted, in turn, the support for SIP initiatives that share a common vision and congratulated the Peruvian organization for its perseverance and commitment to promoting the integral development of engineering for the service and well-being of Peru and the hemisphere.
