Member Election Process

  • The Candidate for Full Member must be proposed by an Organization from their UPADI Member country or by three Full Academicians from different American countries. The Associate Member category is reserved for people resident in countries on other continents. A Candidate's proposal must be made by the Organization of their country, a Member of FMOI, or by the Academy of Engineering of that country, or by two Senior Academicians
  • Nominations may be made by post or electronic mail and must be signed by the President of the Institution or by the Academics who propose a Candidate.
  • Nominations must be received simultaneously by the President and Secretary of the Academy within the deadline established by the Board of Directors, generally within the first three months of the year in which new Members will be incorporated.
  • The President and Secretary will verify whether the nominations meet the requirements of the Statutes. The Secretariat will order the proposals and send them to the Election Committee, 120 days before the scheduled date for the Incorporation Ceremony.
  • Conduct yourself in an honorable, responsible, ethical and legal manner that enhances the honor, reputation, and utility of the profession.
  • The Election Committee will issue, within 10 days, a written and substantiated recommendation.
  • The Secretariat will send the history of the accepted proposals to each of the Full Members of the Academy who will have 10 days to vote. If there is a two-thirds majority for the acceptance of a Candidate, the Candidate will be considered elected.
  • The President will inform the Elected Candidates who must respond to their acceptance and send the Initial Incorporation Fee. It will also notify the individuals or institutions that nominated them.
  • Candidates for Full Members must personally receive the Diploma and the official Medal that accredit them as Academics at a Solemn Incorporation Ceremony. Prior to joining, they must submit an original work. Associate Member Candidates will be invited to participate in this Ceremony but are exempt from the obligation to attend. If they attend, they will receive the Diploma and the corresponding Medal there. Otherwise, only the accrediting Diploma will be sent by post.
