API will hold its 2026 mid-year meeting in Costa Rica
San Juan, PR
At a time when artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and climate change are redefining the future of nations, engineering is called upon to play an increasingly decisive role in building solutions for sustainable development and collective well-being.
With this vision as its guiding principle, the Pan American Academy of Engineering (API) will hold its interim meeting on July 27, 2026, in San José, Costa Rica, in coordination with the Pan American Union of Engineering Associations and the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica, reaffirming its commitment to promoting engineering focused on innovation, social progress, and the well-being of the continent's peoples.
The gathering will bring together academics, professional leaders, and engineering professionals from various countries across the Americas in a space dedicated to exchanging ideas, evaluating ongoing initiatives, and identifying new collaboration opportunities that strengthen the profession's transformative capacity in the face of contemporary challenges.
The meeting gains particular relevance as it takes place within the framework of activities of the Pan American Union of Engineering Associations, an organization that has selected as the central theme for its congress this year Engineering in the Face of Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change.
This discussion naturally converges with the theme guiding the Pan American Academy of Engineering's jubilee commemoration, focused on Artificial Intelligence and Engineering for Socioeconomic Development and Human Well-being.
The convergence of both agendas presents an exceptional opportunity to deepen hemispheric dialogue on the future of the profession, foster strategic alliances, and promote joint initiatives capable of responding to the technological, environmental, and social challenges facing the region. It will also allow for the identification of cooperation areas that enhance engineering's contribution to the development of the Americas and strengthen the role of professional organizations in formulating innovative responses to global challenges.
This shared vision is supported by the Declarations of San Juan 2022, Córdoba 2024, and Panama 2025, documents that have reaffirmed engineering's responsibility as a driver of innovation, sustainability, and human development. Through these declarations, the Academy has promoted an agenda aimed at fostering solutions that integrate scientific knowledge, technological advancement, and ethical commitment to the well-being of societies.
As part of the interim meeting's work, Academy members will also address various institutional matters aimed at strengthening the organization's governance. These include considering proposed amendments to the bylaws related to election and administration processes, as part of a continuous effort to consolidate robust, transparent organizational structures aligned with best practices in institutional management.
Beyond organizational management matters, the API's interim meeting will represent an opportunity to renew the hemispheric engineering community's commitment to building more resilient, competitive, and sustainable societies. The accelerated technological evolution and profound changes our societies are experiencing demand concerted responses that integrate knowledge, innovation, and strategic vision.
From San José, engineering leaders from across the continent will share experiences, analyze emerging trends, and explore new forms of cooperation to expand the profession's contribution to the human and economic development of the Americas. The gathering will reaffirm the conviction that engineering not only provides technical solutions but also constitutes an essential force for driving progress, strengthening institutions, and improving the quality of life for our peoples.
We will soon release additional information about the API meeting's work program and the activities that will be part of this important continental gathering, which has become one of the main hemispheric forums for strategic thinking on the future of engineering.
