Message about Collaboration Agreement with the Brazilian National Academy of Engineering

October 22, 2024, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Distinguished Academics from Brazil and the Americas, today we begin together a day of collaboration between the most distinguished engineers in Brazil and the hemisphere; something that will undoubtedly transcend national and continental borders, due to the impact of engineering on the development of our countries and humanity.

The genesis of this agreement stems from an initiative that we took with the purpose of together providing the best of our professionals so that the nations of the G-20 when meeting in Brazil would give priority to;

Engineering Education and Development

The Mitigation of Damage from Natural Disasters,

The Design and Construction of Resilient Works

and

Affirmative Actions to Mitigate the Impact of Climate Change

These ideas, embodied in the San Juan Declaration 2022 of the Pan-American Academy of Engineering were shared with the esteemed president of the National Academy of Engineering who very quickly saw the opportunity for collaboration between the two Academies for what we proposed and much more. It should be noted that President Menel quickly shared a draft agreement that we chose to draft to ensure full compliance with the respective statutes, taking into consideration fiscal provisions and much more.

Our presence here in Rio for the signing of this agreement reflects how we value the importance of Brazilian engineering and the talent of the professionals who serve Brazil every day, teaching, researching, building and developing cutting-edge technology, as we saw during the Seminar that brought us together. Precisely because of this relevance, the Pan-American Academy of Engineering joined the ANE to sign the first collaboration agreement with a National Academy of the countries of the hemisphere. We certainly appreciate how much this represents.

Since the San Juan Declaration of 2022 motivated our initiative, we are pleased to present to the ANE an original copy of the document, in the hope that it will find a place at its headquarters where all national academics can reflect on transcendental ideas and common principles for a better world.

In thanking the ANE for everything that preceded the signing of the Agreement and for the attention they provided to us during our stay, I must dedicate special thanks to Academician Paulo Alcantara Gomes, API, ANE. Those of us who were not his disciples at the university, but have been fortunate to know his conception of engineering and how engineers contribute to the development of society, peoples and the world, know the quality of the great professional and best human being that is Paulo. Paulo's collaboration to achieve the Collaboration Agreement signed today was more than instrumental.

Together we will collaborate for order and progress for Brazil, the Americas and the entire world.
