Puerto Rico to host the 2026 Biennial Meeting of the Pan American Academy of Engineering

San Juan, Puerto Rico (August 10, 2026)— The Pan American Academy of Engineering (API) will hold its 2026 Biennial Meeting in Puerto Rico, an international gathering that will bring together prominent engineering professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Switzerland, and Puerto Rico from November 14 to 18.

The Biennial will serve as a space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on some of the issues that are redefining the practice of engineering and its contribution to the development of societies. The agenda includes topics such as artificial intelligence applied to engineering, climate change and resilience, and technological innovation and its implications for the future of the profession.

The Opening Session will take place on Monday, November 16, at the headquarters of the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico (CIAPR), the institution that will also host the Biennial Meeting's proceedings.

For Puerto Rican engineer José Domingo Pérez Muñiz, president of the Pan American Academy of Engineering, hosting the meeting in Puerto Rico represents an opportunity to continue strengthening ties between professionals and institutions and to foster a shared reflection on the major challenges facing engineering.

“Engineering is going through a time of profound transformation. Artificial intelligence, climate change, resilience, and rapid technological innovation force us not only to rethink how we practice our profession, but also to ask ourselves how we can put that knowledge at the service of sustainable development and the well-being of our societies. Bringing together some of the most experienced voices in engineering from the Americas and other regions of the world in Puerto Rico will allow us to share knowledge, compare experiences, and, above all, build responses together to challenges that no longer know borders,” said Pérez Muñiz.

The participation of professionals from different countries reaffirms the international character of the Academy and its mission to serve as a meeting point for knowledge and cooperation among engineering communities. From this perspective, the Biennial seeks to go beyond academic exchange to foster new opportunities for collaboration and strengthen a shared vision of engineering's contribution to scientific, technological, economic, and social development.

The work agenda will run through Tuesday, November 17, and will include various sessions and activities aimed at fostering professional dialogue and integration among participants. Additionally, the induction of new academicians will be celebrated.

The API will soon provide additional information regarding the program of activities, participants, conferences, and accommodation options for those traveling to Puerto Rico for the Biennial.
