Biographical Data
Consultant in Road Engineering. Partner of Barraza, Ayarza y Asociados, Consulting Engineers. (1960-1979). Consultant to the Higher Education Council of Chile, the Ministry of Education, Argentina; to UNESCO; to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Professor at the School of Engineering at the Catholic University of Chile (1952-1977). Director of the Department of Scientific and Technological Research, DICTUC, (1958-1964). Head of the Department of Construction Engineering, (1966-1967 and 1974-1976). Director of the School of Engineering, (1967-1968). Full Professor of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Santiago de Chile. (1978 -1991). Director of the Department of Civil Works Engineering, (1986-1987). Member of the University Academic Council, (1987-1988). Member of the University Board of Directors. Vice Rector for Teaching and Extension, (1988-1990). He is Deputy Director of the Inter-University Development Center. (CINDA) (1975 to date).
He has participated as editor or co-editor of a significant number of books on University Management and Policy and various articles in specialized journals. Member of the Editorial Board of the journals: “Creativity, Education and Development”, of the University of Santiago de Chile; “IGLU. Inter-American Journal of University Management”, published by the Inter-American University Organization, Canada; “Quality in Higher Education”. University of Central England in Birmingham. UK.
In the last 40 years, he has participated as organizer or coordinator in a significant number of International Congresses, Seminars and Forums, mainly in the areas of higher education and in particular in engineering education.
He belongs to or has belonged to the Chilean Engineering Association (1955-1956); the Chilean Institute of Engineers (Lifetime Member); the Chilean College of Engineers (Lifetime Member); the Engineering Foundation of PUCCH; the Chilean Society for Engineering Education (Founding Member); the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) (former member); the American Society for Engineering Education (former member)
Diploma and Gold Cross awarded by the Engineering Foundation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Diploma of Recognition as director of the DICTUC. Diploma in Recognition from the School of Engineering of the PUCCh. Gold Vector Award, awarded by UPADI. “Chilean Society for Engineering Education” Award.
