Biographical Data
Civil Engineer, Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM (1972-1975), Master in Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM (1976-1978), Doctor in Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM (1990-1994).
He is currently the Coordinator of Hydroelectric Projects at the Federal Electricity Commission of Mexico.
In his professional life, he has witnessed and played a leading role in the technological evolution of Mexican dam engineering. It has promoted the construction of large dams in Mexico. He has contributed to the realization of the La Yesca and La Parota projects. He has carried out hydrological studies of the avenues of the Grijalva River. He designed the diversion work for the Aguamilpa project. He carried out applied research on the cooling system of the vaulted arch curtain for the Zimapán project. He has been working since 1993 in the Dam Safety line of research. He has done important research in the field of dam development, insisting on the construction of new dams with sustainable bases.
He has published several articles in national and international journals on risk assessments using limited probabilities. His scientific production and technological development have been widely distributed in specialized journals and publications, including the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering of Mexico, the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering of the ASCE, Dam Engineering (affiliated to Waterpower & Dam Construction), Civil Engineering of the CICM, Tláloc of the Mexican Association of Hydraulics, etc.
He received the “Gabino Barreda” medal, a prize awarded by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Recognized with the “José A. Cuevas” and “Miguel A. Urquijo” National Engineering Award for the best technical civil engineering articles published by the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico. “Francisco Torres Herrera” National Award for excellence in the professional practice of hydraulics; awarded by the Mexican Association of Hydraulics. “Benito Juárez” Institutional Award for Excellence, by the Federal Electricity Commission. He received the Raúl Sandoval Landazuri Engineer Award from the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico.
