Biographical Data
He is a mechanical electrical engineer graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM. He is also a master's degree in administration, with an honorable mention, from the Faculty of Accounting and Administration of the UNAM itself. He has carried out specialization, updating and improvement studies, both in the country and abroad, in areas such as fractography, quality, teaching, productivity, technological management and educational accreditation.
He is a permanent full-time tenured C professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM and belongs to PRIDE with level “C”. His academic activity began 33 years ago and he has taught more than a dozen subjects in the Faculty of Engineering in different divisions, as well as some courses in the Faculty of Chemistry, the National School of Social Work and the postgraduate courses of the Faculty of Medicine as well as the Faculty of Accounting and Administration of the UNAM.
In the Faculty of Engineering, he was academic advisor in the area of physical and mathematical sciences and engineering, coordinator of mechanical engineering laboratories, coordinator of the social service and academic secretary of the Division of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, general secretary of the faculty and head of the Division of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He was also Deputy Director of Statistics at the General Directorate of Statistics and Institutional Development of the UNAM. He is currently the director of the Faculty of Engineering.
He has directed more than 30 thesis papers in different university entities, some of which have won competitions in the areas of engineering and public administration. He has consistently led and formed groups dedicated to research, technological development and teaching. He was coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in which the UNAM, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and the University of Ghent, Belgium, collaborated. He is an evaluator within the collaborative design program that exists with the University of Berkeley, California. He holds two patents in the area of machine design and has held the special chairs “Bernardo Quintana Arrioja” and “Aurelio Benassini Vizcaíno”.
He is co-author of two books on materials science and technology for application in the metal-mechanical industry, he has translated three books on the subject, technically revised several more and produced various publications, such as study guides, articles, papers and special publications, both in the country and abroad. He is a frequent speaker at forums related to innovation and technological development.
He worked professionally in the private sector in areas related to manufacturing, mechanical design and production systems, as well as in business consulting and the assessment of mechanical faults. In the public sector, he collaborated with the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) in the design of programs for CONALEP and the design and implementation of programs for the Technological University System.
He was also head of the Project Monitoring Unit of the Technical Subdirectorate of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and collaborated in the design of the CONACYT operating model to stimulate technological development in the Mexican company and increase its competitiveness.
He served as president of the National Association of Faculties and Schools of Engineering (ANFEI), in the biennium 2008-2010, in which the participation of students in professional forums was encouraged and the models most relevant to the different modalities of training engineers were identified.
