José Luis Fernández Zayas

Biographical Data
Doctor in Electrohydrodynamic Flow Engineering from the University of Bristol, England.
Academic and researcher who has worked both in the private sector and in the public sector. Dr. Fernández Zayas is one of the most outstanding academics and researchers in Mexico, who has played an important role in promoting applied research, innovation, science and technology in our country.
He is a Mechanical Electrical Engineer with a specialty in Industrial Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM and a Doctor in Electrohydrodynamic Flow Engineering from the University of Bristol, England.
Since 1975 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Engineering and a researcher at the Engineering Institute of the UNAM. He has published about 250 articles, studies and papers and more than thirty books. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the UAM and the UABCS.
He has chaired several trade union and academic organizations, such as the National Solar Energy Association (ANES), the Academy of Engineering, ADIAT and the Scientific and Technological Consultative Forum. He has established private engineering design centers and has led companies producing electromechanical equipment.
He was Director General of Technological Development and Environment at the Ministry of Energy and later president of the World Energy Council's global study of water for energy.
He has been an advisor to international banks and was an energy manager in the Science and Technology Program for Ibero-American Development (CYTED) in 2011. In 2012, he was director of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Mexico-EUA Foundation for Science.
