Biographical Data

He entered the National School of Engineering (ENE) of the University of Brazil in 1951 and graduated in Civil Engineering in 1955. Professor of the Chair of Railways and Highways (ENE), he remained teaching for 40 years, eventually leading the Department of Transportation Engineering of the School of Engineering of the current UFRJ (former University of Brazil). He was a member of the Congregation of the School of Engineering and a member of the University Council. He completed postgraduate courses in the Netherlands, France and Brazil. He worked as a researcher-specialist for the National Research Council.

He was a member of the Rio de Janeiro Road Council. He headed the Technical Standards Division of the Brazilian Institute of Agrarian Reform (IBRA - Presidency of the Republic). In the private sector, he created his own construction company, and later participated in the management of Civil Construction Consulting and Transportation Engineering companies. In class entities: He was President of the Polytechnic Alumni Association (A3P), elected Honorary President of the A3P and is currently a lifetime member of the Board of Directors. In the Engineering Club, he was Director and is currently a Life Advisor.

He was founder and president of the Brazilian Association of Specialized Professionals in France (ABPEF), and is currently a lifetime member of the Board of Directors. He was Vice President of the Brazilian Federation of Engineering Associations (FEBRAE) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors. He was Deputy Director of the Pan-American Union of Engineering Associations (UPADI), representing Argentina.

He was a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Associations (FMOI/WFEO), based at UNESCO (Paris). He was vice-president of the International Association for Continuing Education in Engineering (IACEE). He is a founding academic (2000) of the Pan-American Academy of Engineering (API); he was Treasurer until 2013 and elected an Emeritus Member of API in 2014.
