Biographical Data
Telecommunications Engineer, Degree awarded by the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro — PUC-Rio, in 1967. Master in Physics — PUC-Rio, 1970. Doctor in Physics — PUC-Rio, 1976. Specialist in Electronic Paramagnetic Resonance from the University of La Plata (Argentina), under the sponsorship of the OAS, 1970.
Full-time professor at PUC-Rio. University Professor in various areas associated with teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Vice-rector of PUC-Rio. He is currently Full Professor in the Department of Physics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
Counselor of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro — FIRJAN. Counselor of the National Confederation of Industries — CNI. Occasional advisor to the Euvaldo Lodi Institute — IEL, an organization of the National Confederation of Industries responsible for the interaction between Industry and University. Advisor to the National Industrial Learning Service — SENAI — on issues related to metrology education. Advisor for National Engineering Education Reform Programs.
Training of 6 doctors, 6 master's degrees and 22 students of scientific initiation. Participation of 32 doctoral thesis panels, 31 master's theses and 19 professorial competitions. Participation in the application of the “Problem Based Education” technique at the PUC-Rio School of Engineering, leading these actions in Brazil. Participation as a member of the “steering committee”, presenter and invited plenary presenter of the ICEE from 1999 to the present. Teacher Reform in Engineering in 1995 and 1996, as Dean of the School of Engineering at PUC-Rio, as part of the REENGE program.
Publication of around 60 articles in indexed and refereed international journals, in the fields of Physics, Education, Innovation and Knowledge Management. Publication of 55 articles at conferences with referees. Participation with articles from 36 other congresses without referees.
Member of the Brazilian Engineering Teaching Association — ABENGE. Member of the “steering committee” of the “International Conferences on Engineering Education - ICEE” since 1999. Founding member of the “International Network for Engineering Education and Research — iNEER”.
“Top Educational” Award, in 1994, awarded by the National Association of Maintainers of Catholic Schools - ANAMEC - for the creation of the PIUES program for the interaction between University Education and High School. “Distinguished Engineering Educator” awarded by the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) during the “International Conference on Engineering Education”, 1999 version, for its contribution to the internationalization of Engineering Education.
