Biographical Data

He was born in Mexico City 76 years ago, graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM, an honorable mention, a pioneer of diving in Mexico, worked aboard the ship Calypso with Captain Cousteau on various submarine projects and was director of Comex-Marsella starting his hyperbaric center. In the 70's they began his activities as inventor of appropriate technologies taking advantage of existing resources in each place.

Holder of 52 patents in Mexico and abroad, successfully applied to make artificial islands for oil purposes in the Arctic Ocean, for the construction of a floating hotel in Kuwait, in oil terminals in Thailand and in the Virgin Islands of St. Croix, as well as at the mouth of the Amazon River for an aluminum industrial complex and in North Africa for the protection of the west bank of the Suez Canal in Egypt.

In our country, they have been used for marginal protection in rivers, to form artificial reefs, to build breakwaters, breakwaters and artificial reefs.

In 1959, he was a professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM, he taught classes in the Higher Education Division, the Center for Continuing Education for Professional Development, IPN and the Mexican Institute of Cement. Member of the Academic Council of Engineering and Secretary General of the ACIII. He is president of the FEPIOC Council; he organizes Galapagos 85, Nordsud and is president of the Coordination of Scientific Research and Technological Development 2012-2014 of the Academy of Engineering. Participations in COPPEDEC I, II, IV. V, VI and VII; COSU II, and V, and many other congresses in our country and abroad. In 1977 he received the Medal of Merit for Invention and Research in Paris and in 1977 the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASCE, instituted the Mauricio Porraz International Coastal Engineering Award, which is awarded annually.

In January 1984, Grupo Expansión declared him the “1983 Man of the Year”.
