Biographical Data
Rosa Gálvez, originally from Peru, is one of Canada's leading experts in the control of pollution and its effects on human health. She has a doctorate in Environmental Engineering from McGill University and has been a professor at the Université Laval à Québec since 1994, heading the Department of Civil and Water Engineering from 2010 to 2016. He specializes in water and soil decontamination, waste and waste management, and environmental impact and risk assessment.
Throughout her career, private, government and community organizations have requested her to provide expert advice. He has also advised several international organizations, including the Canada-United States and Quebec-Vermont agreements related to the protection of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. He also conducted an important study on the catastrophic oil spill in Lac-Mégantic.
Senator Gálvez is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and Engineers Without Borders. Her research has taken her around the world to countries such as France, Italy, Belgium, Japan and China.
Senator Gálvez was appointed member of the Senate on December 6, 2016, representing Québec (Bedford). He lives in Quebec with his partner, Luke, and has three children, Virginie, Lydia and Francisco.
Education
Degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Engineering, Peru in 1985.
Master of Science (M.Sc.), Environmental Engineering Technology in 1989.
Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering in 1994 from McGill University.
