Biographical Data
An officer in the Brazilian Army from the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (1955), Waldimir has a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering (1959), a master's degree (ME, 1969) and a doctorate (PhD, 1970) in Engineering and Materials Sciences and Metallurgy from the University of Florida and Free Teaching from the Fluminense Federal University (1976).
His brilliant academic-professional career earned him numerous honors, including the Grand Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit and the titles of Emeritus Researcher at CNPq and Professor Emeritus.
Recognized for his leadership capacity, Longo held positions of great importance and relevance in his more than 50 years of career, such as vice-presidency of the Fund for Financing Project and Program Studies (Finep), president of the Fluminense Technological Company (Flutec) and management of the National Observatory (ON).
At UFF, Longo was Prorector for Research and Postgraduate Studies (Proppi) and one of the main people responsible for the creation of the above-mentioned Prorector.
