API invites participation in an international dialogue on sustainable infrastructure
Reston, Virginia
The Pan American Academy of Engineering (API) invites its members and the engineering professional community of Ibero-America to participate in the international discussion "Sustainable Infrastructure," an event that will bring together leading specialists to discuss the application of the ASCE/COS 73-23 Standard Practice for Sustainable Infrastructure and the significance of its recent official translation into Spanish as a tool to broaden access to technical knowledge in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world.
The discussion will take place on July 9, 2026, via a live broadcast on the ASCE Publications LinkedIn page. The session will bring together international experts who will share experiences and insights on how this standard contributes to planning, developing, and managing more resilient, sustainable infrastructure prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
The discussion will be moderated by Michael Sanio, API, First Vice President of the Academy and Executive Director of the Atlas Initiative for Critical Infrastructure. Engineer Cristina Contreras Casado, founder and executive director of Sinfranova, will also participate, sharing her perspective on the recent publication of the official Spanish version of the ASCE/COS 73-23 standard and its importance in broadening access to technical knowledge in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world.
During the event, the discussion will cover how the ASCE/COS 73-23 standard strengthens decision-making from the early stages of project planning by promoting a comprehensive approach that fosters transformative thinking, the evaluation of multiple design alternatives, life-cycle cost analysis for infrastructure, and the balance between economic, environmental, and social impacts.
Furthermore, the discussion will address how this standard complements widely recognized methodologies, such as the Envision framework, strengthening a vision for infrastructure that integrates sustainability, resilience, innovation, and value creation for communities.
The Academy's President, Engineer José Domingo Pérez Muñiz, API, emphasized that the availability of this publication in Spanish represents a significant step forward in strengthening the exchange of technical knowledge in the region, facilitating the adoption of international best practices, and promoting infrastructure solutions that meet current needs without compromising the well-being of future generations.
With this initiative, API reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge, as well as to promoting dialogue spaces that drive innovation, international cooperation, and sustainable development through the responsible practice of engineering.
The discussion will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 2:30 PM Eastern Time, via live broadcast on the ASCE Publications LinkedIn page. Participation is open to all professionals interested in learning about international best practices that guide the development of more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
"More than a technical presentation, this event proposes a conversation about the future of infrastructure and the role engineering is called to play in building more resilient, sustainable societies prepared for future generations," emphasized Pérez Muñiz.
